Shepherd senior partner to give insight into surveys and valuations at mortgage lenders Edinburgh conference

Ian Fergusson, senior partner at Shepherd Chartered Surveyors, will give an insight into the valuation process at a mortgage lenders conference in Edinburgh next month.

The Intermediary Mortgage Lenders Association (IMLA) is a trade association representing the views and interests of UK mortgage lenders involved in the generation of mortgage business via professional financial intermediaries.

Aimed at the new joiners to the industry, which will be a mix of newcomers to both lenders and intermediary firms, its next conference, entitled ‘Encouraging New Talent’, will be held on 26th June at The Heart of Midlothian Football Club, Edinburgh.

The event aims to give delegates a broad knowledge of the constituent parts of the market, the key drivers behind the direction of travel of the industry and exposure to the experience and insight from IMLA and senior industry colleagues to build individual networks, inspire progression and provide access to the tools and confidence to thrive and progress to the very top.

Fergusson’s presentation on mortgage valuations, and the Home Report process in Scotland will explore the evolving landscape and valuation factors impacting lending decisions.

“I’m honoured to be given the opportunity to speak at this prestigious conference and will use this opportunity to explore the current valuation landscape, understanding its ‘why’, ‘how’, and ‘what’ and discuss how the current valuation landscape is evolving to reflect risk models and improved Automated Valuation Models (AVMs),” he said.

“It’s my intention to outline the key factors impacting valuation outcomes and lending decisions with the aim of helping delegates gain insights to how they can confidently navigate diverse valuation scenarios.”

Fergusson has been a member of RICS for 40 years and is a fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and senior partner of Shepherd Chartered Surveyors. He is also a past member of a number of RICS boards, including the UK World board, the UK Residential board, and is a past chairman of RICS Scotland board.

Fergusson is also chief surveyor of Sesame Bankhall Valuation Services (SBVS) which acts for lenders panelling valuation work across the UK.
